I'm putting together a whole range of furniture designs using Deskey's original screen as the source of inspiration. Deskey was a superb and prolific Art Deco designer, and this screen was perhaps his most striking piece c.1929. It is very typical of his best work, the use of rich colours in the Cubist zigzag patterns are so typical of Art deco. It has painted designs and a silver leafed finish on one side only. Made to order. This page shows a few ideas of how the screen design can be adapted for beds & bedroom furniture.
The bed above left uses the screen to create a 'Skyscraper' headboard, towering above the bed. Very
dramatic, quite a showstopper in a room. If made thicker it would add more to the architectural 'building'
feel. You could even add concealed lighting behind this for an even more dramatic effect!
> Above right; the same bed looks even more striking with Hollywood bedroom steps around it (especially as carpeted for luxurious effect). The steps echo the stepped profile of the headboard.
The head boards above use one of the panels from the screen turned on it's side. The colour scanned a little funny (but you get the idea). This is a much simpler & less expensive way to add some of this style. Some further headboard ideas below.
