Art Deco - Kitchen (7)

new Art Deco stepped Skyscraper style fitted kitchen furniture with Jazz band silhouettes in the island panel

This kitchen design treats the kitchen furniture in an architectural way to create some very strong Art Deco lines. The overall look is very symmetrical and has a great visual balance. There is a lot of influence in these designs from the Deco architect Paul Frankl. These designs are intended as a series of ideas for planning your kitchen, they can be varied endlessly. The kitchen furniture is part of the wider kitchen design, and indeed house look, and needs to be planned to fit into the wider scheme. We've shown several finishing options below. This kitchen design shares many similarities with this kitchen.

Part of the Deco look was the streamlined clean lines, which are well suited to modern kitchen preferences. This kitchen design was planned without handles, and relies on push catches to open doors & drawers. However, Deco style handles can be used for a more robust Deco look. Refridgerators only started to make an appearance in homes during the Deco era and were always freestanding models. So we showed this kitchen with a freestanding Smeg style retro fridge, but this could be integrated if preferred. I like ovens to be in tall units, where they are more practical for day to day use, but some people prefer them built under, and they can look more authentic that way.

Modern kitchen design usually places the hob on the island and the sink against the wall - the idea being that in open plan kitchen spaces you can prepare and cook while looking into the room rather than facing a wall. An island extractor allows you to achieve this practically. As these are made bespoke we can do basically any option you want or the size you want. The doors & door panels can be painted, lacquered, wood, veneered, mirror, glass, etc.. The worktop equally can be whatever you want, from wood, granite, marble, Corian, glass, etc.. We can also adapt the design anyway you want, and you can also choose any colours or wood, or mix, you want. As it is made to order any elements can be adapted to whatever you want.

We'd be happy to design a new kitchen along these lines for you. If we're not near enough to you send us the room plan and measurements or your architects' plans - working at distance isn't a problem when designing the kitchen. We can do the design work, and help you project manage the furniture, appliances, worktops, colours, etc..

Above is a smaller drinks cabinet we recently did. It had the same ideas applied to the main kitchen design, both in the colouring and with the Jazz Band silhouettes in the main panel. You can see more details of this cabinet here.
