This table design was based on a Voysey bureau design, with the design being simplified for use as a side table. What really makes the piece are the end 'faces' formed with the 2 eyes and heart. Voysey, and Mackintosh even, used faces in their designs quite a bit to add interest and i guess a touch of humour. The rails feature the typical voysey curved pattern. The original design had 2 lower rails, but a small table needs only one, which is cleaner visually. The Gothic Ogee shaped bottom of the sides is typical of Voysey's later interest and use of Gothic elements. Normal table height. Shown here in the natural oak finish preferred by Voysey, but could quite easily be stained darker, waxed or lacquered, or painted, as shown below. This could be used as a 2 person breakfast table or a display table.
The table design was also adapted for a client to use as a display cabinet, which can be seen in the Voysey furniture section. This was to be used for displaying family heirlooms, photos, etc.
