If you are looking for a striking Mackintosh bookcase(s) or library then look no further. These highly graphic pieces of furniture will make a strong statement in any interior. The aim was to produce new work using Mack's design ideas. In case you think this is 'Mockintosh' the designs are based on details on actual Mack furniture designs produced, just used in a slightly different way for something new - he was a great one for playing around with his own design ideas to arrive at new variations on a theme; we just carried this idea on. The squares on the frames are very striking, and combined with typical Mack furniture colours/ finishes establish a strong Mackintosh theme in a room.
The bookcases can be freestanding, as shown, or built-in. The aim was they could be built up to make a range of sizes and shapes, from straight runs to L & U shaped bookcase runs. The range begins with a standard bookcase, then either a single or double bay can be added to make various patterns & length. Then we can also include doors to the bookcases for further use and storage, ie for a media unit. We've shown 3 typical door arrangements of the 3 squares in the door panels.
This cabinet can be finished as the original one, or we could finish it in a range of typical Mack colours/finishes as shown below. The frames with squares can be done in 2-3 ways, which can range from economical to more expensive to produce. In a couple of the designs we've included a Glasgox School of Art wall clock we do, as it seemed to fit in with the overall look of the piece. It is optional. We don't discuss sizes or pricing until we've agreed a spec with a customer.

Worth considering if the fact that as the bookcases run get longer the number of squares multiply signiificantly, which can make the detailing look too busy. In the 4 bay bookcase shown above some of the coloured squares were removed, keeping the squares detailing, leaving a more subtle balanced design.
