This sideboard / console table cabinet design was based on an original piece designed by Gerrit Rietveld c. 1923, for a music cabinet or sewing cupboard. The sideboard showed Rietveld playing with asymmetry much more in his designs. The cabinet below, in black, white and grey, is how the cabinet was originally made. There is a lot of similarity between this piece and his famous Berlin chair, both made in 1923, and tyhe use of asymmetrical planes and the same colour palette.
While a sideboard / console table is always a practical piece of furniture, but when it is in the De Stijl style and painted in typical De Stijl colours it takes on a striking presence in any interior. It's hard to believe that Rietveld designed this piece a 100 years ago and it's still looks interesting and modern. We've shown it painted in the original De Stijl colours and in a 2nd colourway of black, grey & red as Rietveld's original drawing, but these could be changed to whatever colour combination you wanted.
The worktop can be granite, marble, quartz, painted wood, Corian, glass, etc. As this is made to order then it can be made to whatever sizes, within reason, & finish(es) you want. This is shown as a smaller sideboard, but it could be much wider for more presence, depending on the scale of the room. We even did a deeper version for use as a bathroom vanity unit, shown below. We don't disclose sizes or prices until we've agreed a spec with a customer.
