This is one of Gerrit Rietveld's best known and recognised table designs, the 'Military' table. It was made for a Military school initially, and was made it wood. It was later painted white with black ends to the rails. It has a crisp graphic look and is visually light - due to the top being raised on rails so you could see light between them. It shows an interesting variation on the 'Rietveld joint'. At this time he was looking for ways to mass produce furniture and he explored using bolts to assemble the pieces (an early precursor of flat pack furniture). The table was made in several versions, both in sizes and woods/finishes. It can be finished in any combination of colours you like.
