This coffee table was designed as a companion piece to the famous Red Blue chair, keeping the same proportions and colours. If you're sitting in the chair where do you put your glass of wine or coffee cup?
Furniture as art! The following table is based on the designs of Gerrit Rietveld, but the top was painted in the style of Mondrian paintings. It was an experiment waiting to happen, the surprise was that no one had done it before. We first did this in the mid 1990's but since then many have applied Mondrian designs to everything from trinket boxes to wardrobes. One of the central idesa of De Stijl was the emphasis that planes of space led off elsewhere, suggesting or creating further planes. Mondrians' painting were always about this; and Rietveld's painted his furniture with colour influences from Mondrian. It seemed logical to combine the two together. These tables all play around with De stijl concepts of space, the table base seems a 3D extention of the paintings, and vice versa. Needless to say hand painted designs like this don't come cheap, and reflect the quality of production we offer. With the painted design version you might want to use a glass top to protect the design.
