Wm Burges Shelf Unit

William Burges carved & Gilded Gothic shelves We restored this Wm Burges original Gothic large shelf unit for the owner. It had originally hung in Burges's own bedroom at Tower House, and can be seen in original photographs.
We had to replace, recarve and regild virtually all of the columns and finials. The whole piece had been gilded some 130 years ago, when it was made; the trickiest part of the restoration was to match the antiquing of the new additions exactly to the old, which we did perfectly. This was a real treat to work on a Burges original.
