EW Godwin; sideboard

EW Godwin Gothic Revival style sideboard EW Godwin Gothic Revival style sideboard EW Godwin Gothic Revival style sideboard

This is a design for a Gothic sideboard by the architect designer EW Godwin. Godwin was a close friend of Burges, and this sideboard clearly shows the influence of Burges on his designs, it is very close to Burges's own work. Early in his career Godwin produced many Gothic designs, noteworthy among them being Northampton town hall, before he moved on to his better known Aesthetic style work. This piece was adapted from a Godwin wardrobe design, and adapts well to a sideboard format. It used typical Burges features, long strap hinges, ornate metalwork, flat surfaces, leg crockets, etc. This could be made to your own specification, ie size, colour, wood or paint etc. This could be left as a wood finish or have some ornate Burges style Gothic painted decoration to make a real wow piece. Shown above are 3 different versions for ideas. Made to order.
