Producing new designs in this style is an interesting process. Clients usually have a rough idea of what they want, and as a designer you can play with this forever. This wardrobe was to have flat surfaces typical of Burges & Wm Morris, it's the decoration that brings it to life. The starting point was to use Morris style Angels / ladies in the top panels, using a scroll to link them visually together. Within the 1 design we showed 3 different top door shapes we could use. The square bottom panels could be treated in different ways, or mixed. It was a simple way to present the variations. We produced several designs for the bottom door panels. While this was designed originally as a TV Hifi cupboard, it could equally be used as a wardrobe, bookcase, drinks cabinet, general cupboard, office storage. The cabinet could have further Burges style decoration & ironmongery added to make a real wow piece. The interior could be fitted however you like. Made to order.
The original design was for a specific project, & made to that size. But you can change the proportions & colours of this cabinet easily, as it is made to order - see the Cabinets section for variations of this design, link at bottom of page. This could be made as a freestanding wardrobe or a built-in robe. You could add more doors to the run as well. As ever with robes make sure of your access when considering a new robe. You could make this more elaborate with a gothic cornice or roofline ?
