Art Deco - Desks
This range of desk designs were based on a bedroom suite we recently made. The stepped
skyscraper shape is the main motif giving them their Deco styling. The desks are somewhere
between Deskey & Frankl in style. This was a very simple way to create a strong visual impact,
and allows for a wide range of contracts between the desk body and the stepped shapes. The
desk shown above used 2 wood veneers for the contrast, but some examples below show painted
backgrounds with a range of stepped shape finishes. The inset plinth is a typical Deco feature.
We've shown 3 main widths of desks; above is a single desk with drawers either side.

The 2nd desk above shows a central chest of drawers with 2 narrow base supports, one
either side, for a 2 person desk. This version is also shown with a striking stepped
mirror arrangement on top of desk, which would create a huge visual impact in a room,
as well as bouncing light around and making the space feel bigger. With a deeper desk
these could actually be cupboards. This is shown in a typical KEM Weber finish of pale
green lacquer with dark wood shapes & handles. The 3rd desk above shows a full width
2 person desk, with 3 chests of drawers. This is shown in cool minimalist lacquered
colours. The shaped aprons in between the chest can be a fixed panel or could be a
shallow height drawer.
The dimensions of such pieces, as they are made bespoke, can be changed to your preferred
sizes. We will add quite a few finish options below to give you ideas for what you can do
with these, but we can essentially do any finish you want. The worktop can be made with
several materials, from wood to painted/lacquered, granite, marble, quartz, corian, glass,
etc. This would be shipped flat and would require minimal home assembly. We don't disclose
dimensions, further details or prices until we've agreed a spec. with a customer.

Above is the bedroom suite the desks were based on. The tall wardrobe handles were
really effective at suggesting the skyscraper height & stepped shapes, and this detailing
was carried through to the dressing table, with the tall stepped mirrors. The wardrobes
would easily adapt to shallower depth bookcases for home office storage.

Above and below are shown a few more design ideas we can do with this style of
furniture. The desks can be made smaller, or larger, as required. We can add a
top shallow depth storage cupboard, and a mirror for storage and display. We can
also supply matching cupboards and bookcases to complete your home office, as
everything is designed and made as a one off.
