Anything bespoke, including coffee table are always going to be considerably more expensive that mass produced furniture. There are higher skill levels that go into the design, making & finishing of one off pieces, that are made for a specific size / purpose.
This coffee table was designed to sit between 2 sofas and act as a lamp table. The table was goin into a living room with several antique side table, so it had to match in in style & colour. The end panels were given a tre-foil shape to add some interest. The overall style is quite simple Arts & Crafts. What really makes the piece is the medium-dark oak finish. The other photo shows the coffee table 'in the white', which is a style CFA Voysey always specified. Made to order.
A large oak coffee table in the American 'Mission' style. Beautiful grain on top achieved through use of 1/4 sawn oak. Natural finish with a matt lacquer. Made to commission to whatever size you require. Can also be a stained deep brown colour as original pieces. We could also fit a shelf underneath, or vertical end rails to give it a more Mission look.
These tables are a direct legacy of Wright's design style, inspired by an original table. They fall into his most interesting work somewhere between Mission style & Art Deco, with their stepped bases especially. Wright was good friends with Paul Frankl, whose stepped Skyscraper Deco furniture made such an impression in the US, in the late 1920's. We've shown them in a range of colour variations, mixing wood with colour for a piece of furniture with a striking silhouette. The coffee table could equally be made rectangular shape as well. Made to order. You can see more colours for this table here.
We supplied a Voysey house with reproductions of a dining table, dining chairs and a coffee table, in Oak. There is a real unity of design in this suite of furniture. Although Voysey didn't design this coffee table, or any that I know of (this piece of furniture hadn't come into common usuage when he was designing), he left such a strong design vocabulary that it is quite straight forward to design a new piece much as he would have done. What really distinguished Voysey above his contemporaries was his subtle proportions, lovely detailing and use of the best quality materials.
The radiused table top ends match those of the dining table; they echo the round form of the bay window, & they echo the curves on the top rails of the chairs. The table lower end panels were added to echo the chair backs, including the Voysey heart cut-outs, & dovetailed into the rails - which again matches in with the chairs. The table legs all change from square to octagon in section, & are rounded over at the bottom, common Voysey devices which repeated in the chair legs.
This was a matching dining table & chairs in the same breakfast room. More details on seperate page. Finished with a satin lacquer finish. You can of course specify the table be left in natural Oak as Voysey might have, but modern life requires many to have the table lacquered, to prevent marking day to day (think coffee rings, red wine glass marks, etc). Your choice. Made to order, so the sizes can be made to whatever you want. Delivery time approx 10 - 12 weeks..
This table was originally designed by CR Mackintosh as a full size Oak dining table for the Willow Tea Rooms, 1903. The design has been scaled down to make an elegant coffee table. Painted white, with the recurring 3 square cut-out motifs. We could supply it either painted ( white or black ) or in Oak, or do it as a full sized dining table. Made to order. You can see more Mackintosh furniture in the Mack. section, from home page.
The styling and name of the range immediately point to the source of inspiration for this range, Frank Lloyd Wright. It has all the styling of the 'Mission / Prairie' look. The range can be made in Oak or Ash. The 'Illinois' range includes a full range of chairs and tables, in many sizes, and an armchair and Sofa. Coffee table; ref 21/70. Size; Ht 45 x W 91 x D 46 cm.
A nice simple Arts & Crafts coffee or side table such as the 'Broadway' above is a pleasure to use everyday. The pared down Arts & Crafts look table has shaped legs with feet derived from a Mackmurdo desk. We can do this table in a variety of sizes, shown below. All made from ash, with a medium - dark finish. The matching coffee table is shown above. We can do this in several sizes, shown below. Height 460mm. Shown above is the design for the living room coffee table in a Mission style. The coffee table top was octagonal because it allowed a large coffee table to serve both sofas, but still allow easy access around the sofas, as shown on the plan.
