Gothic - Bookcases
These bookcases or tall cupboards make a really good Gothic statement in any interior.
They have many Gothic elements, from tall Perpendicular style Lancet arched door panels,
which can be decorated or plain, chamfered plinth and castellated cornice. We can expand
on this piece to produce a range of other matching furniture, as shown following. The
doors are shown with simple knobs, but could look even more impressive with ornate Gothic
door handles.
It provides a very clean looking Gothic bookcase architectural shape and provides plenty
of storage space. These bookcases can be used in a number of ways, from a bookcase to a
home office piece, a drink cabinet/bar, or wardrobes. We can also supply matching furniture
to go with this, ie sideboards, cupboards, wardrobes, desks, etc etc. These bookcases can
be made in a range of woods/finishes or a wide range of painted colours; we've shown some
examples below.
Although shown as freestanding bookcases they can be built-in. The bookcases are made bespoke
to order, so we can adapt the dimensions to your requirement. Due to the scale
of the bookcase delivery & access can be a problem; so we might suggest they be
supplied in 2 sections for straight forward assembly in the room they will sit. We don't do
quotations until we've agreed a spec with a client.

The above 2 designs for the sideboard show how the proportions for the same piece can
be changed, to suit your requirements, and how it can affect the look. Although shown
on the sideboard only the same applies to the tall bookcases & cupbopards.

Whilst we all enjoy looking at nice photos of pieces and designs furniture making is a
practical business. It involves taking a load of un-machined 'blank' boards, marking them
out, cutting and dimensioning every single component to the exact size, machining joints
and construction, assembling the components square, sanding them all (so even with dust
extraction it can be a dusty enviroment), final assembly. Then take it apart to stain and
finish all the components (which is why it is shown without the cornice and plinth mouldings
at the moment), and then re-assemble the finished item. Make no mistake this is engineering
in wood, and the customer pays for this attention to detail and skill in producing these pieces.

the above design shows where bespoke design really comes into it's own. As designers
we can endlessly adapt these pieces to produce new designs exactly to your requirements.
Above are shown some matching 4 door sideboard designs, which can be attached to the
tall bookcases cupboards or freestanding. The sideboard cabinet could also have 1, 2,
3 or 4 doors, or maybe 2 x 2 door cabinets either side of the main bookcase. We've also
shown a matching style desk or dressing table, or a larger bookcase or drinks cabinet/bar.
Then you can see some of the larger combinations you can build up from these pieces.
