The Art Deco era co-incided with the discovery of and massive public interest in the new Egyptian tombs opened up, which sparked a craze for all things Egyptian. Many design elements of the Egyptian style complemented the emergent Art Deco style, so it was natural that many Egyptian style motifs would be incorporated into everything from buildings to furniture and accessories. This new small freestanding bookcase, display unit or bar design is a new take on Ancient Egyptian furniture, and have an Art Deco look & sensibility about them. The overall shape uses typical Egyptian sloped sides, seen on everything from buildings to furniture, but we inverted the usual sloped shape, but it looks still very typically Egyptian in style. The black base colour gives it a dramatic look, with a decorative painting of the winged Godess the dominant design, surrounded by heiroglyphs for a sophisticated overall look. We can adapt the dimensions, designs and colours as required. The top can be limestone, the classic Egytian stone, or a dark granite, but could equally be another stone, painted, wood, glass, Corian, laminate, etc.. The whole piece can be left newly painted or distressed as you prefer. The base is a cupboard with shelves. Made to order, we don't disclose sizes or prices until we've agreed a spec with a customer. Made to order. You can see more of our Egyptian designs in the Egyptian section of the website.
Above left shows how the bookcase would look when used as a drinks cabinet; although there is an element of kitsch to it, it is a serious enough design to rise above that and present a quality look in any interior. The bookcase on the right has a wider pylon top, for more display or storage space.
