Carrying on with Donald Deskey's design ideas we have produced some really striking new lamp base designs. The designs below were inspired by other Deskey designs. They have a more Cubist shape with typical 'Skyscraper' flashes. As well as the painted versions we could offer marquetry veneer versions of these as well. Or we could supply these as a marquetry veneered version of the lamp, see below. These lamps are usually supplied with 2.5M length of cable (but no plug, as these vary country to country). They are made to order, and we don't give out dimensions until we have agreed a spec with a customer. Given the unusual shapes and amount of work to finish them they are not cheap - they are for clients where budget is not the main consideration, but getting the look right is.
The painted versions offer one look, which is very striking; however, we can do marquetry versions of these. The designs are made using contrasting wood veneers, which while still striking, are more subtle using rich woods. Marquetry requires a lot of craft skill to achieve such classy results. As these are made bespoke we could use any combination of wood you prefer, especially if you are trying to match into a room finish theme. The above lamps, although quite similar colours, use different woods to achieve a slightly different look. The LH lamp uses 2 shades of oak for a grainier look with the pattern in sharp contrast, while the RH lamp mixes black walnut & birch for a smoother richer look. They are finished with several coats of lacquer, for a smooth protected surface. Made to order. Above left are shown several marquetry veneered panels, ready for gluing to the lamp base. Above right; once the face veneers are glued to the lamp base they are clamped up to ensure a good bond.
We register our new designs as they are added to the website. While we don't claim any exclusivity to Deskey's original designs, our furniture using these designs is original and are our copyright. All rights reserved.
