This Skyscraper bookcase was closely based on Frankl's bookcase desk of c. 1928. The original bookcase desk was the most complex design of any of his bookcases and arguably has the most striking composition. Frankl, like all designers, adapted his own designs to produce new variations, we followed the same design process in designing this new corner bookcase. We re-arranged some of the original bookcase elements in a different format to produce an equally interesting new piece. The original bookcase desk had a radiused top, we took the liberty to change this to a stepped shape following the profile of the base. The high plinth is striking on this piece, with it's stepped profile and partly in wood partly painted black - it gives great crispness to the piece.
If you want we can do an accurate reproduction of the original piece, but we are not slaves to the past, and design new variations on such pieces as you require. This corner bookcase can be handed, meaning it can be made to go the other way round. We can change the proportions, wood or finish or maybe a painted finish. As stated above this is a very complex designwise, and complicated to cut and assemble. It is made of several sections, for ease of shipping; which requires minimal assembly at your end. Please enquire for more details and to discuss your requirements. This bookcase table is just about to start production, so we'll post photos here to show progress.
This is what happens you let a designer loose with another designers work. Some will think you can't mess with the original pieces, but why not? We just took Frankl's design ideas and expanded on them, as here. This substantial sideboard bookcase oozes Deco design at it's best, being both symetrical and un-symetrical. The multi-stepped base is striking, but the striking top section placed off centre really makes the piece. We could of course make the top section centred on the base, and make it wider if you want. Look at the full blown bookcase designs below to see how far you can take this. This bookcase would have a massive presence in a room, it is a piece of showstopper Deco furniture. As well as offering a lot of storage space they give you plenty of display space.
