Another celebrated voysey design. Voysey was brilliant at producing simple striking line images, which could be used on everything from adverts, posters, to metalwork. The 'bird' airvent is seen in nearly every Voysey interior photograph, simply because he used them in every room in every house he designed. He was an early pioneer of internal house ventilation, and ensured all his houses had a vent system. And every room had one of these 'bird' vent covers. Although usually the double version was used in most houses, they could be made bespoke as a single, triple or 1 off size as shown. They were originally backed with a fabric, to stop dust. They are usually painted either black (to highlight the design) or white (to make it blend in with wall colour). But we have done them in a variety of finishes, from Bronze to chrome, both bright and aged copper finishes.
The air vents above are in a variety of copper finishes. The bottom 2 are shown in a bright copper finish; while not to everyone's taste it does look good. The top left photo shows an almost black antique patination (almost bronze in colour). The top right photo shows a nicely antiqued copper finish.
Although the originals were cast, we make these in approx. 1/8" / 3mm thick steel. They are supplied with a primed finish, ready for final painting in-situ. They can be used for their original purpose or as a decorative item on the wall. They come with 4 holes for screws ( not countersunk holes ). Size approx. 26 cm wide. Price on application. Usually in stock.
Voysey was great at adapting his designs to other uses. In this spirit we did the same with the Bird airvent design, turning it into a striking firescreen design. With a lit fire behind this emphasises the striking outlines. See the accessories page for more information.
We adapted the Bird design to produce a Voysey trivet, a lovely design to use everyday on the table top. Shown here in copper, for more photos see the Voysey accessories index.
