The inspiration for these cupboards & sideboards, part of a new range of designs, was a perforated design in a piece of Wright furniture, adapted for new work. It is testament to his original design that some 80 years later this still looks very contemporary and striking. Wright would probably have been bemused at first by his design being used in this way, then it probably would have sparked some new designs from him. Wright was ever an artist, so we tried to incorporate something more artistic into the designs, rather than just do straight reproductions. Most of Wrights' furniture is wood finish, much of it, especially the built-in pieces, can be quite plain and utilitarian. However, Wright & Masselink did produce quite a bit of decorative designs, often seen on screens, doors, etc. It was to these pieces we looked for inspiration in designing some of the new work, taking their originals ideas and adding to them. While that might offend some Wright purists - tough, we are not slaves to the past!

The cupboards & sideboards all have the clean boxy shapes typical of Wright, relying for their decorative effect purely on the stylised shapes (we can do either). They can be made in a wide range of painted colours, woods/finishes, or a combination of the two. The larger scale really suits the Abstract pattern. We have shown a range of options, from a smaller minimalist one to a 4 door version. The doors are on push catches for a cleaner look. They are usually fitted with an interior shelf(s).

The perforated cut-outs can be either cut-outs or backed with a number of materials, from acrylic to glass, metal leaf, painted or wood veneer, etc.. As these are made bespoke we can change the dimensions if required. The worktop can be wood, painted, stone (granite, marble, Quartz, etc), Corian, glass, etc. We generally leave it to customers to source their own worktops (unless it's a worktop we make), as these are personal choices. Bespoke furniture can be tailored to your exact needs, in terms of proportions, shape, colours, sizes, worktop etc.. Bespoke made to order - we don't discuss sizes or prices until we have agreed a spec. with a customer.

The 2 pieces shown at the top can be either used as a wall hung console table or we can make it larger to be used a floor standing low minimalist sideboard, storage cupboard or TV stand. Below we've shown a couple of fairly straight forward 2 door cupboards or sideboards. The bottom one is quite striking with it's long worktop overhang at the sides; this idea came from a few Wright tables using this idea.
