These designs really sit in the category of Art furniture. The inspiration for these cupboards & sideboards, part of a new range of designs, was a Gene Masselink painted design, adapted for new work. It is testament to gene's original design that some 80 years later this still looks very contemporary and striking. These are statement pieces in any interior. Wright was ever an artist, so we tried to incorporate something more artistic into the designs, rather than just do straight reproductions. Most of Wrights' furniture is wood finish, and much of it, especially the built-in pieces, can be quite plain and utilitarian. However, Wright & Masselink did produce quite a few decorative designs, often seen on screens, doors, etc. It was to these pieces we looked for inspiration in designing some of the new work, taking their originals ideas and adding to them. While that might offend some Wright purists - tough, we are not slaves to the past!

The cupboards & sideboards all have the clean boxy shapes typical of Wright, relying for their decorative effect purely on the geometric painted shapes. The larger scale really suits the geometric patterns. We have shown a range of pieces below, including some taller pieces, so you get some ideas of how we can play with the designs. The designs range from a 3 door sideboard, to a wall hung minimalist console, to a low cupboard.

As these are made bespoke we can change the dimensions if required, but keeping the proportions roughly the same. Bespoke made to order - we don't discuss sizes or prices until we have agreed a spec. with a customer.

We are actually in the process of producing a 4 door wardrobe with a similar design. Shown above is a painted sample board for the client. You can clearly see the level of accuracy required to produce the design. The wood colour is darker than the designs, as they wanted this. More photos will follow soon.
