Any FLW fan will instantly recognise where the inspiration for this sideboard cabinet came from, part of a new range of designs. Many of his houses included a clerestory row of windows, usually with a repeating perforated design which diffused the light coming in and created a striking silhouette pattern casting shadow patterns into the room. We just used some of his geometric pattern shapes and scaled them up in size for use on furniture. The effect is very striking, instantly FLW style, but treated in a new way, almost a Pop Art way. He himself would play around with his own designs to produce new uses for his ideas, this is a continuation of that process.

It is testament to his original designs that decades later this still looks very contemporary and striking. Wright would probably have been bemused at first by his designs being used in this way, but then it probably would have sparked some new designs from him as well. The sideboard has the clean boxy shape typical of Wright furniture, relying for their decorative effect purely on the perforated pattern for effect. Practical art, FLW and Morris would have approved. The doors pattern can be achieved several ways, but the perforated doors are tricky to machine to get them accurate, which is reflected in the cost.

We can even adapt this design to other pieces, such as bookcases, vanity units, etc. The sideboard could even be smaller or wall hung, using a scaled down pattern. we can also supply a matching wall mirror or a wall cabinet as well. As such pieces are made bespoke we can tailor them to your requirements, within reason. It can be made in a wide range of painted colours, woods/finishes, or a combination of the two. The doors can have knobs or can be on push catches for a cleaner look. They are usually fitted with an interior shelf(s), but could be fitted out more if you want. The perforated cut-outs can be either cut-outs backed with a number of materials/finishes, from acrylic to glass, metal leaf, painted or wood veneer, etc.. As well as making this a 4 door cupboard we can also do it as a bureau style drop-down single door, so the front panel has no door lines for a cleaner look. As these are made bespoke we can change the dimensions if required. The worktop can be wood, painted, stone (granite, marble, Quartz, etc), Corian, glass, etc. Bespoke made to order - we don't discuss sizes or prices until we have agreed a spec. with a customer.
