MH Baillie Scott was an interesting character. He designed a wide range of houses & interiors, & was close in many ways to Voysey. Most of his interiors & furniture was traditional in nature, often just plain wood surfaces, & interesting shapes. But his watercolour designs were really stunning, vivid Arts & Crafts interiors alive with colour, with a hint of Folk Art about them. You get the feeling these were a showcase for his talents rather than interiors actually carried out, or intended to be carried out.

This was a real shame, because they are so inventive & colourful it would have been great to see a few completed. They lack the restraint of his own and Voysey's clean interiors, they are a riot of almost folk art pattern & colour but co-ordinated to create co-ordinated interiors. You can clearly see why they probably didn't appeal to the typical Arts & Crafts enthusiast. Even today many would consider them too 'busy' to live with. And yet the last 20 years has seen people much more receptive to pattern & colour in their interiors. To this end we are adding some of our own designs for Baillie Scott furniture, based on his watercolour ideas.
