We produced fitted bedroom wardrobes for the current owner of Edwin Lutyens Arts & Crafts house Little Thakeham. For the more public areas of the house the owner wanted to keep an authentic Arts & Crafts style, such as the stunning kitchen we designed; but for the bedroom wanted something not Arts & Crafts.
For the bedroom they wanted a classically elegant country house cream hand painted range of furniture. The photos didn't do it justice, as the room wasn't wide enough to take decent photographs. Planning wise it was a tricky job, with 3 doors in the room, and a corridor between 2 of them! Basically we ended up producing 2 'L' shaped runs, with his & her wardrobes. We also incorporated a corner dressing table under the window with drawers either side. The robe interiors were fitted out in various ways.

The robes were built floor to ceiling, for maximum storage. The main wardrobes had smaller storage top cupboards above for extra storage. The doors were all Shaker panelled. The doors had 1 large panel & 1 smaller panel above, which was the same size as the top box doors. In between each robe was a turned half pilaster. A cornice ran around the robes at ceiling height, and broke forward over the pilasters (always a nice touch). The end of 1 run of robes included an open shelf unit, for easy storage & displaying personal knick knacks. We also incorporated plinth space heaters in the plinths, to heat the room quickly.
