William Morris; bookcases
This striking Morris style bookcase design aims to capture the flavour of early
Morris & Co. work, where it was transitioning from Gothic flavoured work into Arts &
Crafts style. It also has something of Phillip Webb's 'State' furniture for the Firm
about it. This large piece has quite a presence about it, adding an instant Morris
aesthetic to an interior. An interesting option is that Morris curtains can be
pulled to hide the top shelves and feature the actual fabric design & colours. If
nothing else they keep dust off the books/shelves.
The Lancet door panels can use quite a few design options, from Morris paints/papers/
fabrics to stained glass window designs, mirrored glass, etc. The deep colours are
derived from Morris designs & furniture, obviously there are maany other colours
that could be used than those shown. The size of this bookcase make it more suited
to larger rooms, country house hotels, etc, looking for statement furniture. Also
access is a consideration with larger heavier pieces like these. Depending on the
final size & weight it might be necessary to part assemble the bookcase it-situ.
Although the bookcases is shown as a 4 door version, it could equally be a 2, 3, 5
or 6 door version. It could be freestanding as shown or built-in. We've shown a couple
of designs below to show how they can be combined with say a sideboard or tall cupboards.
The bookcases are made bespoke to order, so we can adapt the dimensions to your
requirement, and change the colour or finish. We don't do quotations until we've
agreed a spec with a client.
