Wm Morris ~ sideboards
Visually this is the stand out piece in the Artisan range of furniture. This is furniture as Art,
and needs a nice piece of art pottery or similar to sit on the top for full effect. It looks pure Medieval
but was a totally new design. It has a striking shape. This particular piece had a rolling
influence on later Arts & Crafts furniture designs, that echoed the splayed legs shape & over-hanging
top. This was first made, c. 1861, for Morris's Red House. It relies for it's effect on a great shape
and simple chamfering for detailing. Although just a couple of the single door versions were made, there
was a design for a 2 door version. As it's made to order we can make this in a range of woods or painted
finishes (we've shown some ideas below).
