This is a striking piece of art furniture; the bookcase whilst very practical & offering plenty of storage, is essentially a large canvas for the hand painted door designs. These 2,3,& 4 door bookcases were inspired by an early Omega Workshops rug design by Duncan c.1916. A rug design adapts easily to a flat surface, so we adapted the design for matching sideboards, a mirror & vanity units as well, see those sections. Duncan was quite aware of new art being produced in Europe at the time, this design shows some influence from some of those artists. It would be a fairly typical Abstract painting but for the hatch lines around the edges, which give it a visual energy. And he was not seeking perfection in his lines, as say Mondrian was, which also adds to the vitality of the design, plus it has good colours. Rather than follow the example of the original artists, in Omega & Bloomsbury, and decorate secondhand pieces of found furniture, we design & produce pieces from new with the designs planned from the start to create unified pieces. Below we've shown several design and colour options to give you some ideas of how you can vary these.

The bookcase, although shown as a 2 door version, could be made as a 3 or even door version by adapting the size of the doors and the design proportions. We've shown several design examples to give you ideas. It could also be built-in if you prefer. It could also have either a front frame or top drawers, but these would add more lines to the front & possibly detract a bit from the design. It is made to order, so you can change the proportions to your preference, within reason due to the front design. This would be made bespoke to order, so we don't discuss sizes or quotes until we have agreed a spec. with a customer.

This low bookcase cum display unit were based on a low bookcase at Charleston, which we adapted the colours and design of. The top design shows the bookcase used as a display piece or sideboard. The bottom design shows the same piece with a darker carcase colour and a matching style painted wall mirror
