Like many designers we revisit old designs and with fresh eyes we can see more possibilities, which is the case with this bookcase. The inspiration for this range of bookcases or display units was a painted bed by Duncan Grant. our original bookcase design had the painted panel at the top and much smaller. Here we have blown that same painted panel up large across the 3 base doors. The result is a very dramatic piece of furniture, and would definately be the focalpoint of any interior. The rich abstract design and colours depict 'Morpheus', the God of Sleep. As the bookcase is made to order we can change the size and proportion to whatever you want, within reason to the scale of the design. The interior of the bookcase is a light wood tone, to emphasis the rich painted colours.

The bookcase whilst very practical & offering plenty of storage and display space, is essentially a large canvas for the hand painted door designs. Rather than follow the example of the original artists, in Omega & Bloomsbury, and decorate second hand pieces of found furniture, we design & produce pieces from new with the designs planned from the start to create unified pieces. Having a cornice gives the piece more of a traditional flavour, and no cornice gives a more modern cleaner look. We've also showed a version below where the top is made narrower than the base for a more unusual design. The idea is to show how as designers we can produce all sorts of variations and combinations, as these are made bespoke. The bookcases are shown freestanding but they could be built-in if preferred. They are made to order, so you can change the proportions. This would be made bespoke to order, so we don't discuss sizes or quotes until we have agreed a spec. with a customer.
